The theory of object relations
Principles
Psychoanalysis postulates the presence of three component structure of psyche consisting of Me, Super-Me and It. These three components function differently: Super-Me includes social and family values, Me lives based upon the principle of reality, It – upon the principle of pleasure being largely unconscious. The unconscious striving for pleasure defines human behaviour, but due to Me and Super-Me, It has to use deceitful ways though true desires break through in dreams, slips of the tongue etc.
Methods
1. The method of free associations – a man says everything that crosses his mind.
2. The interpretation of dreams – a dream contains the displaced need, and the analysis of a dream allows to illuminate this need.
